DESCRIPTION:Scheduled for December 7 & 8\, 2024 \nWhy Cracker Christmas? The origin of the term “Florida Cracker” refers to the cracking sound made by the whips used \nby early settlers to herd their cattle\, hence the Floridians were called “Crackers” \nCracker Christmas is an annual two day event held on the first full weekend of December. The event features live historical demonstrators\, vendors\, various foods for sale. \nThis event celebrates the Florida Pioneer and the rich history of the Christmas community.  It also showcases local history through a craft fair with handmade items\, pioneer demonstrations\, and community organizations displays. The event began approximately in 1977 as a small celebration. It has gradually grown into the largest Fort Christmas Historical Society event held at Fort Christmas Historical Park. \nIt is wonderful to have many in our community who are committed to lending their support and knowledge to all Fort Christmas Historical Society events at Fort Christmas Historical Park. Our community clubs depend on such events to help with fundraising for the 4-H\, FFA\, Women’s Club\, Boy Scouts\, and many others.

DESCRIPTION:Scheduled for December 7 & 8\, 2024 \nWhy Cracker Christmas? The origin of the term “Florida Cracker” refers to the cracking sound made by the whips used \nby early settlers to herd their cattle\, hence the Floridians were called “Crackers” \nCracker Christmas is an annual two day event held on the first full weekend of December. The event features live historical demonstrators\, vendors\, various foods for sale. \nThis event celebrates the Florida Pioneer and the rich history of the Christmas community.  It also showcases local history through a craft fair with handmade items\, pioneer demonstrations\, and community organizations displays. The event began approximately in 1977 as a small celebration. It has gradually grown into the largest Fort Christmas Historical Society event held at Fort Christmas Historical Park. \nIt is wonderful to have many in our community who are committed to lending their support and knowledge to all Fort Christmas Historical Society events at Fort Christmas Historical Park. Our community clubs depend on such events to help with fundraising for the 4-H\, FFA\, Women’s Club\, Boy Scouts\, and many others.

Local organizations and neighborhoods join with cars\, dogs\, floats\, and costumed\, holiday-themed marchers — making it one of the largest parades in Northeast Florida. Holiday season decorations adorn all the entries\, and even Santa joins in the spectacle\, as visitors and locals line the Historic District’s streets to watch the procession. \nThe parade begins at the Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission of Nombre de Dios\, proceeds south through downtown\, and finishes behind the Visitor Information Center. Prime watching places include along the west side of San Marco Avenue\, turning right onto Cathedral Place\, and the right again on Cordova Street. Vessels will proceed down the Anclote River and into the Whitcomb and Spring Bayous. \nYou can view the parade from the Sponge Docks\, Whitcomb Bayou\, Craig Park & Spring Bayou. Boats should arrive at Whitcomb Bayou at approximately 8 pm. \nThere is no charge to participate\, but all vessels must be registered to enter. Registration forms may be obtained at the City Marina and the Recreation Division administrative office or online here.
