Privacy Policy

Effective date: 10/1/2026

The Holiday Atlas is a family-run business operated by THE HOLIDAY ATLAS, LLC, a Florida limited liability company (“The Holiday Atlas,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when you use our mobile app, our website at theholidayatlas.com, and any related services (together, the “Services”).

The short version:

  • We collect your first name, last name, and email address when you create an account.
  • We use your location only while the app is open, to show displays and events near you.
  • The free version shows ads served by Google. Premium removes them.
  • If you list or claim a display, its address and details are shown publicly on the map.
  • Homeowners can ask us to remove their home from the map at any time.
  • You can delete your account at any time from the app’s Settings menu.
  • We do not sell your name or email address. You can opt out of ad tracking anytime through “Your Privacy Choices.”

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your first name, last name, and email address.

Location. With your permission, the app uses your device’s location only while the app is open, to show nearby displays and events and to provide directions. We do not collect location in the background. You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings; the map will still work, but it won’t center on where you are.

Displays and events you submit or claim. When you add or claim a display or event, we collect the details you provide, such as the address, a description, photos, and dates. This information is public: it appears on the map for all users.

Messages to us. If you contact us, we keep your message and contact details so we can respond.

Purchases. Premium subscriptions are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We receive confirmation of your subscription status, but we never receive or store your payment card details.

Device and usage information. Our service providers automatically collect information such as device type, operating system, app version, IP address, advertising identifiers, crash reports, and how you use the Services (for example, which screens you view). On our website, this is collected with cookies and similar technologies.

2. How we use your information

  • To run the Services: show the map, find displays and events near you, and give directions.
  • To manage your account, your listings, and your premium status, including the free year of premium for listing or claiming a display.
  • To send important notices, such as a reminder one week before a free premium year ends.
  • To show ads in the free version and measure how they perform.
  • To understand how the Services are used, fix crashes, and make improvements.
  • To promote The Holiday Atlas, including on social media, and to measure our own advertising.
  • To respond to your messages and removal requests.
  • To keep the Services safe and comply with the law.

3. Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that help us run The Holiday Atlas, and as the law requires. We do not sell your name or email address.

Each provider handles information under its own privacy policy. We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of our users or the public, or as part of a sale or transfer of our business.

4. Ads, cookies, and your choices

The free version of the app shows ads through Google AdMob, and our website shows ads through Google AdSense. These ads help cover our costs, like map data and storage. Google may use your device’s advertising identifier and cookies to decide which ads to show you, including ads based on your interests.

You have several ways to limit this:

  • Go premium. Premium removes ads from the app.
  • Your Privacy Choices. On our website, use the “Your Privacy Choices” link at the bottom of any page to opt out of ad tracking and turn off non-essential cookies.
  • Global Privacy Control. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, our website treats it as a request to opt out of ad tracking.
  • iPhone: you can decline the “Allow app to track” prompt, or turn off tracking under Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
  • Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID under Settings > Google > Ads (menu names vary by device).
  • Your browser and Google: you can block or delete cookies in your browser, and opt out of interest-based ads at Google Ad Settings and aboutads.info.

Our website uses cookies and similar tools from Google Analytics, Google AdSense, and the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) pixel. The Meta pixel lets us measure our Facebook and Instagram ads and show our ads to people who have visited our site. When you visit our website, a cookie banner explains this and lets you decline non-essential cookies. You can change your choice at any time through “Your Privacy Choices.” A full list of cookies is in our Cookie Policy.

Older browser “Do Not Track” settings have no common standard, so our website responds to Global Privacy Control signals instead.

5. Display listings and removing your home from the map

The Holiday Atlas is community-powered. Displays are added by homeowners, by other users who spot them, and by our family as we explore. A listing shows the display’s address, description, and any photos, and it is visible to everyone who uses the Services.

The public listing does not show the name or email of the person who submitted or claimed it.

If your home is on the map and you’d like it removed, you don’t need an account. You can:

  • tap “request removal” on the display’s map pin in the app [confirm exact button label];
  • use the removal option in the app’s Settings or Contact section; or
  • email us at contact@theholidayatlas.com with the address.

We remove verified requests promptly and will not re-add the address unless the homeowner lists or claims it. Photos you submit should show only the outside of a display, taken from a public place.

6. How long we keep information, and deleting your account

We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. Display listings stay on the map until they are removed by the owner, removed at a homeowner’s request, or removed by us.

Deleting your account: go to Settings in the app and choose to delete your account. We then delete your name and email address. Displays you submitted may remain on the map without your name attached, unless you ask us to remove them too. Some information may remain in backups for a limited time, or longer where the law requires us to keep it.

Deleting your account does not cancel a premium subscription. Cancel it through your App Store or Google Play subscription settings.

You can also email us to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it.

7. Children

The Holiday Atlas is made for families to enjoy together, but you must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us at contact@theholidayatlas.com and we will delete it.

8. Security

We use reasonable safeguards, and we rely on established providers like Google Firebase to store data securely. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission. If we learn of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as the law requires.

9. Your state privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what information we have about you, get a copy of it, correct it, delete it, and opt out of targeted advertising or the “sale” or “sharing” of your information. We honor these requests for all users, wherever they live. To opt out of targeted advertising, use “Your Privacy Choices” on our website or in the app, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. For any other request, email contact@theholidayatlas.com. We may need to verify your identity first, and we will never treat you differently for exercising your rights.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make important changes, we’ll update the effective date and let you know in the app or on our website before the changes take effect.
